The MKM – Centre for Modern and Contemporary Art
Experiencing art and art spaces, taking a break from everyday concerns to enjoy a striking architectural setting – the MKM is a forum for modern and contemporary art in all its diversity, located in a vital cultural context. Thanks to the Ströher Collection, an international exhibition schedule, and its compelling architecture, the MKM has been a centre of attraction on Duisburg’s Inner Harbour since its opening in April 1999
The Ströher Collection
Fifteen rooms of the MKM, totaling about 2,500 square meters in area, are devoted to a memorable presentation of key works from the Ströher Collection. The works on view provide insights into the oeuvres of influential German artists since the 1950s, with an emphasis on painting.
The presentation offers a unique opportunity to compare diverse individual approaches to art. A range of works from various decades in the careers of numerous artists – e.g. Georg Baselitz – are on view. Enjoy an unprecedented tour through the artistic universe of Stephan Balkenhol, Abraham David Christian, Hanne Darboven, K.O. Götz, Candida Höfer, Gerhard Hoehme, Jörg Immendorff, Anselm Kiefer, Imi Knoebel, Markus Lüpertz, Reinhard Mucha, A.R. Penck, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Bernard Schultze, Fred Thieler, Rosemarie Trockel.
